Great food, welcoming people!!
Our server was pleasant and very attentive. The owner Michael Sr. was cooking table side and even if you did not order to have table side cooking he stopped by and said hello and checked to see how we were.
The door to the bar was left open and the smell of cigarette smoke wafted into the dining room. They were also short handed.

The food was and service was good. However, they allow smoking in the bar area which made it difficult to sit and enjoy drinks before dinner. We then moved to the dining area which is separated from the bar by a swinging door (used by the servers to deliver food) which does not keep the smoke in the bar area.
The coupon does not specify for dinner only. Had to order from dinner menu at lunch. Lunch veal was $9.99 and dinner veal was $ 22.99 for the same size portion. Very unfair. Love the restaurant but will not return.
Made us feel very welcomed to be there. Friendly, Took our friends there for 25th anniversary and we had such a wonderful time. WeWill go more often.
Michaels rest is a wonderful place to eat and visit. Michael and the staff are friendly and the food is great. I love going there because it feels like you are walking into an Italian rest in Brooklyn in the late 60s. The decor is a it dated but to to me that is its charm. If you want 2019 healthy food like kale and bean sprouts, you may want to go elsewhere. If you want traditional Italian food with butter and wonderful sauces with great friendly service than go to Michaels. I love Caeser salad and have eaten them around the world. Michaels is by far the best EVER! Pay them a visit. Its old school dining for sure. The food is awesome!
Excellent service, wonderful food (so good I took home my left-overs)and the portion were perfect. We will return. Lounge looks very inviting.

Service was very slow. Our waiter was a nice guy, but knew nothing about the menu, the food, the preparation, or anything else. It took an hour to get our entree, and there were only 3 other guests in the dining room

The dinning area is very pleasant & has very nice decor, and it was fun watching the owner Michael cooking meals at the tables, there is much to choose from the menu, the soup and appetizers were great as was the main course, and the desert.
Superior service. My date never had the dishes we ordered. She was totally blown away, and happy with everything. We were both amazed how tasty everything was.

Scarce, this describes the food:(our 1/2lb crab legs were 5 skinny legs one has no meat we had to ask for a fork+the waiter blamed the "dishwasher was late" so the didn't wash the forks from the day before?? We got exactly 11 shrimp for $22!! Also the prices online were less thAn when we arrived,he said"oh we just got new menu" many people were waiting on their food and complaining,lastly we had to wait over 10 minutes for the check even when he knew we were finished eating. We've been here while on vacation last 3 years but NEVER again Sad goodbye pinchers with no meat
I waited about 2 minutes before anyone noticed me then another 2 minutes to be seated. Customer service was awful but the food was pretty good. The seafood was o er priced for the amount you receive.
I will never go there again the food came out cold when I talk to manager told me I still had to pay for food whether I wanted to eat or not and in their store customers are never right book told me that
We got there early so were the first diners there. The dining room is really nice, food was excellent and we had a great server. Michael even stopped by our table to ask if everything was good.

We asked for a table in the bar area since my husband smokes very nice. But we will not be going back because the food was not that good. Only one thing that we ordered was excellent their crock of onion soup. The rest was fair to poor. Service was excellent.

While the menu may seem a bit boring, the food is outstanding and the veal dishes are all outstanding.
My seafood platter was extremely overpriced for the amount on the platter. Flounder was of such poor quality and taste that I did not eat it. My husband's veal dish was fair. The bar allows smoking and therefore the dining area although smoke free still smells from smoke especially that there are double doors to the bar area that the staff go in and out frequently. There did not appear to be a great ventilation system.

Food is excellent but bar area smokey. The only reason we don't go more often is that smoking is allowed in the bar and dining area around the bar.
The food is always good at Michael's and though we didn't order table side dining this time it's fun to watch others get it.
The table side Caesar salad was wonderful. We also enjoyed the broiled pork chops, mushrooms oreganata and veal sorrentino. The only downside was the occasional smoky smell emanating from the bar area.

As you walk thru the door you are greeted warmly by Michael, his son or a staff member. The food is always excellent and they cook several entrees right at the table. Service is excellent staff friendly and professional. It is a great place for intimate dinners as it is quiet

Very dated atmosphere. The restaurant was back to the 1950's. It had carpeted floors that held the food odor. Old dated wall decorations. It also had a very dated food preparation at the table. I ordered Ice Tea in a 6 once glass and was not told until the bill came that they charge for refills. The food quality was mixed.

Our entrees have always been very good, but, our favorite reason for going to Michael's is for the tableside Caesar Salad -- the absolute best!

Truly the food was very good. We hadn't dined here in over a year, but I'm glad we came back. If you are looking for a romantic atmosphere I will say the place is a little outdated and could use some upkeep. Presentation isn't necessarily the strong point here. However, if you really just want to enjoy the food (personally, what I think is the most important) then this place is great!

The food was good. It was fun having table side salad, dinner and dessert. We were shocked that we got charged for a coffee refill. That is absurd at a restaurant with such high prices.

we were surprised when we got the bill and we were charged for our ice tea refills.
Food was expensive and did not meet the quality or quantity of an expensive meal. $150 bill for 6 people and we couldn't even have free refills on our soda, which was already given in a small glass. Not a place to take children. We have 4 kids with us - shouldn't have to pay $150 to take our kids out to dinner. Salad was just lettuce and one tomato. Just was not what was expected. Won't be going back ever.

The service & food were great. If we are ever in Michael's area again we will definitely make a visit. The server went out of her way to retrieve an object I left behind and returned it to me in the parking lot. This was quite appreciated by me and my wife.

Long delay after being seated and having our order taken - 15 minutes (and there were only two other tables occupied). Although there is a door between the bar and the restaurant area, it was opened so often that cigarette smoke continually wafted into eating area. A request to move (there were many open tables was met with consternation and confusion until we insisted).Atmosphere is very dated. Reminded me a place I visited when I was a child. (50 years ago)

The table side cooking is cool (we saw it prepared at the neighboring tables)... We had the spinach egg drop soup; snapper soup; fried calamari; veal with mushrooms and peppers in white sauce; salmon with asparagus and crab; and Tiramisu... Food and dessert were delicious and reasonable price for the portions... Servers were courteous, nice, and provide excellent service... The smoking area / bar is separated from the dining area, which is good setup for those that want a smoke free, quiet dining time.. Love the "mom & pop" business feel, which is a nice change from the large chains...

I cannot record the amount we spent above - it was around $180.The tableside made caesar salad was fantastic as well as the tableside steak au poivre flambe, the veal dish flambe and the bananas foster. Michael did it all and everything was absolutely delicious. Also had the asparagus/eggplant app and escargots and both were great. While it's a 40 min. drive for us, we'll definitely go back!!

I ordered the prime rib, one of my favorite entrees.It was the worst prime rib that I ever had. Came out looking grey - had the feeling that it had been microwaved rather than roasted. It was very tough as well. I also had the "famous snapper soup" which was tasteless and would have been inedible had the waitress not offered to add sherry to it. My companion ordered veal oscar which was mediocre at best. She also ordered a shrimp cocktail which had a very fishy odor.

I asked for The Asparagus Appetizer that described thin slices of eggplant rolled with cheese and asparagus. We got Asparagus spears instead, when I said something the waitress was confused and had no idea how to rectify the situation. She never took the Asparagus and it was horrible just plain and boiled! $6.50 can I ADD! Then the food came!!! It was Okay but nothing to write home about! I will say we all felt terrible after! Food was Terrible and service was even Worse!!!! I will also say the Restaurant was smelly like being in someone's basement!

The restaurant appeared clean but very dated...wine was tart and pricey for house wine...atmosphere depressing...we were one of 2 couples in dining room at 8pm on a saturday night

The food is mostly Italian, but less emphasis on pasta. Certain dishes, such as Steak Diana and Veal Cordon Bleu, are cooked at your table with great flair by Michael - a real treat.

The chicken parm was very thinly sliced, the sauce was watered down and even the spaghetti was tasteless. Soda came in small glass filled with ice from the bar. $2.00 per glass no free refills.
We feel the "house wine" is rather poor for $7. Mixed drinks are a better value. Table side cooking is quite a treat and generally only done at much more expensive restaurants.

Difficult to find, but the food was excellent. The tableside Caesar salad was one of the best we have had in some time. Staff was very pleasant and genuinely concerned about our dinner, which reflected the family run tradition. Décor could be upgraded, although the time warp is consistent with maintaining a traditional cuisine.
Salad that came with dinner was not good. some lettuce, one tiny sliver of tomato, that was it.

Although the dining room was completely separate from the very smokey bar, the doors separating them were being opened constantly. I counted the door opening 15 times in 15 minutes while waiting for my meal. The waitress was inattentive to our needs although we were the only ones in there for a good portion of our visit. We would have to wave her down to get our drinks refilled.At the end wepaid by credit card, and she left no pen. We attempted to get waitress's attention but eventually went into the smoke filled bar to pay the bill.
The drinks, salad, soup & entrees were very good. We didn't care for the sauce that was on our pasta. It tasted very strong with one of the spices that was added. Maybe too much basil.

Accomidating to my dietary needs and the fish was fresh and perfectly prepared. The besat fish I have ever eaten. Salad dressing very good although a few more vegetables would have been nice in the house salad. Manacotti noodles unfortunately overcooked. Service was very good.

Marie and Michael are the perfect hosts. dining here you feel like they invited you into their home and cooked a home cooked meal. the tableside meals are outstanding and prepared to perfection. we dine out often at many upscale restaurant. but michaels have now become one of our favorites.

The Caesar Salad is the best anywhere, hands down -- prepared with great flourish the old-fashioned way, tableside. It's fun to have the flambeed entrees prepared tableside as well. The decor could use some updating. The only complaint about the food is that it could use a bit less butter and less salt. But it's great for an occasional indulgence.
Michael's has THE BEST CAESAR SALAD made tableside by Michael himself. Taste & temperature of the food is perfect and delivered in an "unhurried" fashion.

I had been passing Michael's on my return from frequent trips to Trenton for more than 20 years. Never checked it out until the restauranr.com offer. Delighted with the results. Anxious to share the experience- especially with my husbands brothers! Thank you very much.

I'm not sure of all the meals ordered, but it took way over an hour for our food to arrive, but because we came from several states, we didn't mind the wait. Our server was very attentive.
The food, drinks and service were excellent as always at Michael's
Both my wife and I left the restaurant saying what a terrific meal we had. This is in the top 5% restaurants in the area.
