The food, service and atmosphere were excellent. Located very close to Broadway theaters, too.
Good atmosphere. Staff was great. Food and drinks were out quickly.

It was not crowded, yet the food took a half hour to come out. A salad and onion soup!

We didn't have a reservation and were still seated within 20 minutes. However, reservations are recommended.

The salmon was superb -- I will definately go back for more.
Pleasant atmosphere, efficient and friendly service, food was hot and ready very soon after ordering. Reasonable prices. Highly recommend!

I'm usually in New York once or twice a year. The Playwright Celtic Pub is always a must stop whenever we're in the Big Apple. Sometimes two or three times each visit. The food and services is excellent and the staff are always friendly!
Bartender very nice. Food is good typical of aa sports bar.
Extremely small steak sandwich, fish and chips subpar. First Guinness slightly sour, dirty lines. Second, different tap, as should be. No Smithwichs at Celtic pub. Better restaurants available.
By far one of the friendliest staff in any restaurant I have frequented. Prices, considering it is New York City, or a very fair and the food is excellent.
No lunch menu offered. Yet it was shown on restaurant.com
Andrea was our waitress and a true gem. Great suggestions, attentive to service.
Warm quiet pub decorated nicely for the holidays. Charming, old brick walls with warm dark wood made for a cozy atmosphere. We ate in the upstairs dining room after taking a quick tour of the 4 levels to choose from. Great burgers made even better with happy hour drinks.
my booth seat was much in need of reupholstery; the hostess pointed to the bar, but i said I'd rather have a table, please.

Very friendly atmosphere
We ate on the rooftop. Service was great. Good was amazing. Prices were very reasonable.
Service was very pleasant and attentive. The prices were reasonable. It was in a great location. The food was delicious.
Really nice rooftop bar, great location for pre-theatre!
wait staff was very pleasant & efficient.
Fish & Chips are great!
service is quick and friendly.
great service & satisfying food. wine was awful & who puts cheddar cheese in their cole slaw - it was terrible!!! otherwise, have had excellent dining experiences there in the past.
Food was good, and wait staff friendly.
Food was good. Staff was excellent.
Food came out quickly and was as ordered.
10 oz. sirloin burger was a frozen pattie for $13 and didn't have much flavor or taste
Food was great!! and service was excellent
Ordered the appetizer. Even pointed to it on the menu. Didn't realize that they gave me the meal until I recd. the check. What a shock!
It was convivial without being noisy. We sat on the second floor.
They had a great breakfast with complimentary drink.
good value, food
Loved the atmosphere, my type of place for sure! Good drinks - great selection. Tasty food! I would love to go back and visit again. Great place to visit right before a show.
Sat at outdoor rooftop bar area which was nicely decorated for Halloween and the weather was very pleasant.
friendly great service fantastic food
Convenient, casual eating pre-theater.

food was served quickly and was delicious
Food and service was very good.
Wish there were a few more healthy options. I did have a salad.
A little noisy and our table was slightly cramped, but not too bad.
They only allowed us to count food toward our minimum purchase...not our (alcoholic) drinks.
Nice size portions of good food. Hamburgers were excellent.
nice staff; fast and delicious food
The food and the service was outstanding.
The food is ok. The people very friendly.
Celtic PUb was located within minutes of walking to the Cort Theatre for a show. Due to the fact that we are on a strict diet, we were able to choose delicious salads for lunch. I had the arugula salad with blue cheese tomatoes and red onion with balsamic dressing. Service was quick and food was fresh and delicious. My dining partner had another salad with brie and craisins and walnuts. He said it was also very tasty. This is a good place to eat, service is top notch. Clean/bright and can get you in an out in reasonable time. Totally would love to go back.
place was nice, food good, service needs improvement on communication with server to chef (or just server). Took 3 tries to get 2 salads correctly prepared.
Your food is so good and always dependable but I would like to see the dining room updated
Great food and service!!!
Good food wonderful service
very noisy, crowded, would not accept a reservation for 6 pp
tables too close, had to ask couple at next table to stand while I sat!
disagreement with the management over accepting drinks with purchase
The food was perfect!! everything was cooked perfectly and so delicious!! Waitress was so friendly... Great Experience, will definitely be returning!
Food, service, value all very good.
I reserved a table for ten and got two for 6. Was not told that would be the case when I made res
Overall, my guest and I enjoyed our meal at Playwright Celtic Pub. The food was good as was the service, and we didn't have to wait. Small issues prevented a 5-star rating. Mushrooms showed up in sandwich although I asked to leave them out. Not a big deal as I only found 2-3 in there and not a lot of them. Service was slower towards the end, although the guys filled up our glasses with water and picked up finished plates. It was more with waiting for the bill and checking out. But definitely not a big downer.
poor service. cold food. waitress clueless to our questions and concerns.
Great Food (Blacken Swordfish). Great Service by Zack.
excellent
would have rated overall experience a 5, but when we arrived the young lady at the desk told us it would be 5 minutes, told her we were going to a Broadway show; 2 couples after us were seated at the bar, then a family of 4 came in and they were seated, then one more couple came in and seated at the bar, I finally said we wouldn't mind sitting at the bar because again I said we needed to get to a show, she said table is being cleaned off, okay then we were brought upstairs and table wasn't cleaned and she had no other choice but to seat at the table for four. the hostess seeemed inexperienced and once got crowded overwhelmed.
Food was excellent and servers very attentive. Food was served promptly but without feeling rushed.
They are very friendly and the food was excellent. Paul was an excellent waiter.
always fresh pasta and great taste
Tammy was our server...very attentive. Made good suggestions. Great table.
Too crowded and noisy this time and had to walk up 3 huge flights for a table and I was using a cane so it was not the reservations that I had ordered.
Efficient, cordial service delicious fresh salads!
the food is always good
Great selections, portions, quick service
Food was great. Service good.
Food was great. Terrific location in Theater District. Happy hour cosmo for $5.
We enjoyed the food which was flavorful, served hot and a sizeable portion.
Food was very good, service could have been a bit better. One table left because they couldn't get anyone to wait on them and the restaurant wasn't near filled.
Restaurant was a long distance.Didn't realize it was part of Hilton Hotel. Typical hotel food - overpriced for quality; although portion was good and service was good. Restaurant was clean & orderly. Had setup there for Breakfast open buffet, but no lunch buffet.
Friendly, attentive staff. Good food.
Good food....GREAT service, but what else would you expect from an Irish Pub.
Great selections, service and atmosphere!
Bar area is loud but upstairs where we ate was quiet and comfortable. They have a rooftop bar also although we didnt go up there.
Hamburgers were the best we ever had. Service was good too.
Very good food. Excellent service on a busy St. Patrick's Day weekend.
food was plentiful and service was quick
Ordered fish n chips. It was plentiful, tender, piping hot, and delicious. Great atmosphere. Served by a very nice young lady bartender.
Being an Irish Pub we ordered fish and chips believing they would be served as an Irish dish but instead the fish was over spiced and the chips were the same as you would get at Mcdonalds.
First of all the heating was out.2) they only wanted to give us a table beside the stairway that was freezing or between 2other tables that ewes already occupied yet there were several bigger tables available. The service was poor, wait staff constantly chatting at end of resturant.
It was peaceful and quiet. Food was amazing!! Burgers and mac and cheese are GREAT!
It was probably due to the super bowl being in down but it was extremely loud. Noise was from people and the music.
I thought it wasn't much more than a bar, but the food was very good.
the corned beef and pastrami were tough and grainy , poor quality for and irish pub
Great food! Awesome service! Friendly staff. Fun atmosphere.
Nice Irish feel/decor, including soccer matches on the telly, mostly American menu.Pretty good prices for Times Square area. Quiet and leisurely esp considering it was the day after Christmas--though we did eat an early lunch(11:30).
Slow service and not great food
Service was curtious and food was good.
good food, nice decor very friendly staff
Warm welcome! Friendly service! Water glass was refilled several times without asking!
Food was excellent. Made substitutions without difficulty. Fast courteous service.
Quick service and very friendly. A great place to eat one block from times square.
No one greeted us when we walked in so we were unsure about where to go (or were we to wait to be seated). Liked the whole place though.
Mediocre food - crowded and noisy.
fast service and plenty of food.
Food, service and atmosphere all terrific!!
Food was very good. The chicken noodle soup was fantastic. The calamari was very good. Sandwiches (turkey club and chipolti chicken wrap were ok.
Very pleasant waitstaff, relaxed casual atmosphere.
Great food and service.
The Lemon Cod was very nice, as was the Key Lime Pie! Very good service!
Good food, good service, pleasant atmosphere
Atmosphere and building were awesome and cool and unique. Check it out!
Great atmosphere, attentive staff and great food. Prices ressonable for the area
The celtic pub was clean and looked like we were in Ireland, very nice decor. The food was very good and not just the same ole kind of menu. We had a new waitress, she was very friendly and helpful, if she didn't know, she found out.
GREAT ATMOSPHERE WONDERFUL FOOD NICE STAFF
ordered fish and chips batter a little too heavy and did not love the fish
ordered fish and chips batter a little too heavy and did not love the fish
Great location. Good quality and variety of lunch selections. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Perfect choice for a pre-theater meal.
Food was delicious and the right amount for lunch before the theater.
fantastic meal ~ can't wait to return
I just had a pastrami reuben, the toast wasn't toasted, the meat was very thinckly sliced, the french fries were under cooked.
The roof was nice to sit out on
The food was good but the portions very small. We left still hungry.
It is a pleasant place with great atmosphere.Food was fine and the waitress was the face of Ireland.
service was excellent
Delicious shepards pie!
WIFE LOST HER SENIOR METRO CARD. I CALLED LATER THAT NIGHT & SPOKE W/MGR. SHE TOLD ME IT WAS FOUND, & SHE WAS PUTTING IT RIGHT IN THE MAIL.THANX TO WHOEVER FOUND IT, & MGR FOR MAILING IT BACK. AWAITING CARD IN THE MAIL.
good service, food tasty, good place to meet for dinner in Manhattan without being overly expensive.
Surprised by a full menu. Gotta go for the cheese cake dessert
The Pub Burger was delicious!
the greeter and waitress were extremely friendly and helpful. The service was triple A.
SERVICE BETTER THAN PREVIOUS VISIT
Delicious food and courteous service
Typical for Times Square/theater district area. Great service, food good, but not great.
Beautiful holiday decorations made the room warm and relaxing.
First time in New York City. First meal there. Great welcome! Great food!
We love the atmosphere, the menu, the food, the prices and it's close to the Milford Plaza, where we stay.
overpriced and food ok, not great
The waiters were very attentive to our needs.
Found great, staff very friendly.
Our redheaded Irish waitress was most helpful and delightful. There is a sparkle in her eyes and a smile on her face that made this cutomer feel at home.
a great choice in the theater district!
We eat here whenever we go to Manhattan. We always enjoy this restaurant
Pass when attending the theatre.
We enjoyed a great meal! The portions are very generous and everything was prepared to perfection.
Service was very prompt. I found food acceptable, spouse's was good.
Good food, service, price and near theater district.
Inattentive waitress but good bus-boy; skimpy sandwiches for the price. First stopped by post-theater last year & better "everything" at that time.
Worked in the area
Service was excellent as was its location to the theater district and Times Square.
The prices were very high and the restaurant was loud. But the food was good and the service was excellent. All in all, it was a very good experience.
We enjoyed the view from the second floor - especially the large, fake oil pump in the vacant lot to the north of the restaurant. The waiter could have been more friendly, but overall it was a good dining experience.
Good food, reasonable. Good place for pre-theatre dinner
ENJOYED DINNER, SERVICE VERY GOOD
We are regular visitors to NYC and have visited the pub several times.
Neither of us eats onions and two of the offerings already had onions in the dish that could not be excluded. The food was good.
Wish you would remove Restarants that are not active
very very good meal and service. thank you so much!
The service was amazing. I did not wait for anything, in fact the waiter was there refilling my glass before it was even empty. The food was amazing too. Great experience all around.
The restaurant and service people were great and would dine there again when I am in the area.
Our waitress was OUTSTANDING! She allowed us to eat upstairs with no one else there! Friendly, professional and delightful. We dined late night on Monday, Jan 2, 2012.
The restaurant was very crowded so we sat at the bar. The food was good except for the marguerita pizza.. sauce was terrible and overpriced. It was like a frozen pizza that they heated up. We were very dissappointed with that. Otherwise food was good.
Excellent stop for a pre-broadway dinner.
Excellent restaurant close to Theaters. Always excellent service.
Food was excellent but the service was slow.
we love this restaurant. Excellent food, concerned service, convenient to theater district.
Sorry, did not notice this when it was sent to me in October. The "How often do you eat out" question does not have a correct choice for me- I eat out between 3 and 5 times a week. Do not recall how much we spent since it was several weeks ago.
I go here most times when I go to the theatre Love this place
We always come into NYC by bus and it drops us off right in front of this restaurant. It has a great location and the food is good.
Great location, menu is varied, service is quick, good prior to Broadway howsm
The beef stew and the bread and butter pudding were decent. The chicken satay was very disappointing.
I've gone to both Celtic Pubs over the last 7 or 8 years and the food has always been good. Having a certificate was icing on the cake. My family was coming up for the eening nd I wanted to take them some place they hadn't been that I knew was good.
Waiter was very nice and got us out in time for a show. Even held my left overs until I got out of show and came back to pick up. Would definitly go back.
My guest and I enjoyed our meal at the Playwright Celtic Pub. Our waiter was very nice, didn't say much but was very attentive to our requests (in other words, just right). Your hostess (Friday night - 9/23/11) was one of the loveliest I've ever seen. Thanks for contributing to a pleasant Friday evening out.
Our meal tasted like most of it had been pre-cooked the day before. The stuffed chicken must have been cooked the day before then reheated as there was no cheese left in it. The baked potato was dark and undercooked. The buns were spongy and cold and served with icy butter patts(putting the buns in an oven for 5 mins would have made the world of difference). Our other meal was the roast turkey. It seemed more like reheated luncheon turkey slices, not at all as advertised. The mashed potatoes were grainy and again dark and unappealing. They advertised Happy Hour for a Bud-Light $4.00 but charged us $5.50. The server did his job by taking our order then putting down the plates so we felt he did not deserve the added on $8.00 we left him (with a grudge). We left a lot of food on our plates but no one asked us why? We were totally disappointed in our NY foods experienceat this restaurant. :-( Our daughter is a fashion designer and comes to NY every year. We will tell her to stay clear of this place.
