We've always enjoyed dining here - rustic dining room, excellent service, and good food, drinks, & wine. Prices are reasonable.

goat cheese salad which was close to $10.00 was simple greens and the tiniest bit of goat cheese crumble. Not even as good as the small salad which came with the meal.

The shrimp I ordered came fried—it did not state it on the menu or when I asked the waiter—I cannot eat fried foods—the Restaurant was SO very nice and accommodating to make me some grilled shrimp. Such a wonderful and truly kind staff! I would have to say that this Restaurant had the most nicest servers and service by far! (Please note I eat all over the U.S. and out daily — this is a huge compliment to their staff!

The flank steak sandwich was over cooked. The Chicken Marsala had bones in it and there was no flavor and the seafood casserole had no juice in it. The only thing that was good was the salmon burger my son had.

I'd ordered a chocolate martini. Steve came to the table to tell me he looked all over and couldn't find a good quality chocolate liquor for the drink and didn't want to compromise. So nice of him to be so honest and up front with me about that.
We eat here 4 or 5 times a year. The duck was fantastic! I substituted soup for salad.the onion soup was superb.

Steve always welcomes us personally and John is our WONDERFUL waiter to aims to please. Food is always delicious and we can never wait to go back. My husband asked for mozzarella cheese instead of swiss on his French onion soup, and BINGO, it was done! There's just never anything negative to say about this restaurant. It's our favorite place to eat.

I liked the ambience although it was a Friday night and quite loud. The Calamari was cooked properly with a nice breading. The Pork Osso Buco and the Roast Duck where both good, just not special. Service was very attentive.

We were very nicely greeter. After the menus were presented, it took a little longer than we would have hoped for the order to be taken. Food was delicious. However, tea water took a long time coming. It finally came after my husband had finished his dessert and coffee.

The ambiance is quaint and slightly rustic with a very friendly atmosphere.The clientele is respectful of each other and polite without ever being stuffy.The French onion soup and filet mignon were hands down the BEST I ever had. Our server, "Bubs" was so attentive and pleasant with an absolutely sincere smile. The owner, Steve, was very gracious and friendly and accommodating. I HIGHLY recommend The Horse and Hound for a GREAT dining experience.

The duck breast was melt-inyour-mouth, and the beef sirloin special was perfectly made to order. Both dishes were very attractively plated and the service was discreetly attentive. Chef Clinton greeted us after the meal to ensure that we were totally satisfied. We'll be back with friends soon!

This restaurant is set in a historic building in South Salem, very nice atmosphere although the chairs are probably the same as they were 35 years ago when I last visited, and very uncomfortable. Other than that, I would recommend for the good food and excellent service.
The Horse & Hound is our favorite restaurant. The food is consistently excellent as is the service. It can be a little loud when the restaurant is full but it's still worth going. Highly recommend this restaurant

Great Food and Great atmosphere. Steve and Frank are great behind the Bar doing a great job paying attention while providing just the right amount of conversation. The Burger is one of the best and my wife who does not eat meat absolutely loved the Vegan Burger.

We srarted with Mussels in a White Wine sauce that had a good Wine flavor.This was followed by Shrimp stuffed with a lot of Crabmeat over Rice and a very large portion of Crab Cakes over good Mashed Potatoes.Both dishes were good but not exceptional. Our expectations had been higher after reading revues.Ozzie is a wonderful Server and the Inn is both quant and inviting.We will definitely give another try.

The staff is friendly but professional, our waiter even held the door for us when we left, and we used the wonderful hot rolls to sop up every last drop of our onion soup.

The ambiance was perfect for a romantic dinner for two, with the old revolutionary era house and the stone fireplace crackling. The food was fantastic, the best we've had locally. Not sure who the chef is but the menu is very eclectic with a wonderful assortment of dishes to choose from. We have decided to make this our go-to restaurant for special occasions.

Cozy atmosphere but can be noisy.
I have always enjoyed eating at the Horse and Hound, but have found the service to be inconsistent, and find that when the owner is in the kitchen cooking the food not only tastes better, but is presented better.

Good liver and bacon. Good swordfish with sauce provencale. Excellent fried oysters. Fine escargots. Excellent cappuccino dessert, but cappuccino machine was broken so standard drink was unavailable. Reasonable wine prices.
The service was excellent and the food superb. Very charming little Inn. Would definitely recommed to friends and will absolutely return for another dining experience.
